Native Linguists – Several Languages

ALC is happy to inform that we have another contract possibility into which our current and/or prospective employees may rotate.  This contract work-site is located in the Columbia, MD area.  The salary for this position is up-to $80,000 per year and it would mainly involve document translation, transcription and document exploitation.  This contract requires US citizenship but does not require a security clearance at the time of application.  This government agency will process their own access for you; however, this process takes up to a year or longer and you must meet all contract requirements.

Qualified candidates must meet the following requirements:

• Linguists must be a native-speaker of the language
• Linguists must have reached adulthood in the country/region where the target language is either official or dominant.  The linguist should have an adult understanding of not only the language, but also the social/political/religious/ethnic realities of the country/region. 
• The linguist must be able to pass language skill tests. These tests demand rendition of the foreign language from audio to paper and translation of the foreign language into English, so a good level of English skill is a requirement as well.  A history of successful completion of some U.S. education tends to be used as a partial indicator of this.   For Arabic speaking candidates, "substantial" translation experience is required - absolute minimum of a year, although they would like to see more. 
• An SF-86 will also be required as well as a number of additional forms. The short list includes: copies of naturalization certificates/proof of citizenship or legal residence for applicant and all family members (to include applicant, spouse, parents, parents-in-law, brothers/sisters and half-brothers/sisters, sometimes brothers/sisters-in-law, and the applicant's children).  Please begin working on obtaining this documentation immediately.
  

Languages Needed:

• Pashto with fluency in Dari
• Pashto with fluency in Waziri
• Afghan speakers of Uzbek with capability in Tajik
   (Not from former-Soviet Uzbekistan, but from Afghanistan)
• Western (Pakistani) Punjabi, preferably with Urdu
• Hindko (spoken around Peshawar)
• Siraiki (usually classified as a dialect of Punjabi)
• Somali
